John Lewis

Bespoke interactive experience for iconic department store

John Lewis Logo

Famous for their Christmas adverts John Lewis are an iconic chain of department stores with sites all across the UK. Their stores sell a variety of products from clothes and haberdashery to furniture and technology.

The Challenge

Although the department store is typically large in size, it is not always possible for John Lewis to hold every item in every size at each store. In instances where an item wasn’t immediately available to the customer, they wanted to create a point in store where that item could be ordered. The browse and order kiosk needed to show the full range of products on offer at John Lewis and allow the customer to purchase for either in store collection or home delivery. The kiosk they were looking for needed to suit their aesthetics and blend into the stores but also be a prominent and visible to customers.

The Solution

Working closely with the John Lewis in-store design team, 10 Squared created a bespoke design for a range of browse and order points allowing different options for different departments and store layouts. The slimline design allows for mounting on the standard instore shelving, to minimise and disruption from install work and features a 21.5inch PCAP touchscreen and a large area for customised branding.

The Outcome

After a successful pilot in one store the Browse and Order Points were rolled out across stores nationwide improving the brands omnichannel presence. The kiosks were upgraded after the pilot to include chip & pin devices for purchasing items and barcode scanners to allow customers to find the product they may have been looking for more easily.
