When you picture a digital kiosk, you often think of a tall advertising screen with a large HD display, or an interactive kiosk with payment options and multiple features to use.
These machines are our bread and butter, and can benefit any business, in any sector. However, some of our biggest innovations have been surprisingly small.
Portable digital kiosks offer more versatility for businesses and their teams, giving them all the benefits of a full-size kiosk in the palm of their hand.
What are Portable Digital Kiosks?
As the name suggests, these machines are smaller, handheld versions of the static kiosks we provide. In retail, service, and logistics, these machines can be much more convenient to use for people with a lot of distance to cover during the workday. Having easy access to stock information, for example, allows them to work at their best without wasting time moving back and forth to a larger kiosk or PC.
Often, they are small screens with a reinforced frame, keeping them intact if dropped accidentally. Depending on what you need them for they can be customised to suit your business’ needs (more about that in a moment).
If they are too small, there is a midpoint option. These mobile kiosks have solid bases like larger counterparts but aren’t fixed in place. Therefore they can be picked up and moved at any time but are solid enough to stay put if they are bumped into. For events, restaurants, or leisure-focused applications, these give you more ways to control queues and provide the excellent customer service expected from your staff.
The Benefits of Portable Kiosks
Many businesses already use iPads or similar portable devices in their applications. These can be customised to suit your needs, giving staff access to instant information whenever it is required. However, as versatile as these devices are, many find them limiting.
Let’s use a warehouse as an example. One or more of your members is responsible for checking and recording everything that ends up on your shelves, so it can be kept or collected for transport when necessary. A tablet works well, as they can enter the details, and scan barcodes and QR codes if you use them. In the logistics world, there are multiple applications or pieces of software that are designed for that exact purpose.
However, the devices themselves weren’t designed for the job at hand, even if the software is. They can be unwieldy to scan with, with cameras designed more for photography than scanning codes. Their batteries also leave a lot to be desired, potentially not lasting for a full shift.
Our portable devices are just what you need. They’re tougher than your average off-the-shelf tablet, helping them to withstand hundreds of long shifts, but their clear, HD screens are easy to use in any light levels. Unlike tablets, these can have scanning peripherals that are designed for warehouse work – faster, lighter, and easier to use.
Instead of settling for a device that causes frustration, invest in some that were designed from the ground up to suit your needs.
Where to use Portable Kiosks
We’ve already mentioned how portable kiosks can be used in warehousing, but this is far from the only industry we work with.
If your restaurant offers table service and your front of house staff need to manage reservations, a portable kiosks is the ideal solution. We also provide fixed podium kiosks that can be set up in the entrance to your establishment, but during busy hours, these can’t always be manned at all times. With a portable kiosk, members of your staff can greet people as usual, and have their reservations in the palm of their hand, often attached to an interactive floorplan that shows available tables at a glance.
We’ve also designed similar machines for front-of-house staff at theatres and cinemas. If your venue is packed to the rafters every night, you need a fast and efficient system that gets people to their seats. Digital kiosks give you the freedom to do this, without the need for written plans or any confusion.
The retail industry is where digital kiosks are arguably at their best. From our tall totem screens that advertise deals and new collections, to the self-service checkouts that reduce queues, there are digital solutions for all your needs. In the stockroom, you can use portable kiosks to track new stock, organising what should go where, and even place orders to top up your more popular shelves.
They can also be beneficial on the shop floor. Your team are often approached by customers who are looking for something specific, and in most retail settings even the most experienced members of staff don’t have every aisle memorised. If they have a digital kiosk to hand, they can help the customer find exactly what they need or know at the tap of a screen if there are more waiting in the stockroom. These instant solutions are key to customer satisfaction, don’t keep them waiting!
Last but not least are the portable kiosks we’ve designed for events and trade shows. Your exhibition stand might not be fitted with a full-size kiosk, but you still need a way to enter attendee data or show off your products. Instead of a laptop or tablet, a customised kiosk makes you look more modern, and they’ll work exactly as intended throughout the show.
Choose 10Squared for Portable Digital Kiosks
Some business owners that we’ve worked with in the past have acknowledged the usefulness of digital kiosks, but didn’t think that they suited their business. That is until we give them a guided tour of our showroom, and they not only saw the bespoke digital kiosks we’ve designed in the past, but also the portable options that they weren’t aware existed.
Since we design our machines from scratch, we can bring any ideas you have to life; kiosks perfectly suited to your needs ready to solve any issues you’ve been facing. We can’t stress enough how portable digital kiosks can improve workflow, regardless of the application – they’re always something worth considering if you’re looking for a new way to maximise efficiency.
If you have any questions about our digital kiosks, or the company that produces them, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
